Tungsten trioxide nanosheet can be used to prepare a high-performance electrochromic thin film. Specifically, some experts have prepared a hydrated WO3 nanosheet electrochromic film on FTO (SnO2:F) conductive glass by a new seed-assisted hydrothermal method.

According to experts, the traditional seed-assisted hydrothermal methods have long reaction times and high reaction temperatures, and the new seed-assisted hydrothermal method solves these problems. Experts also found that seed layers and urea play a key role in hydrothermal growth. When there is no seed layer, the prepared WO3 film is a flower-like structure composed of nanorods. When a layer of seed crystal is prepared in advance on the surface of the FTO by a sol-gel method and then hydrothermally reacted, a porous structure tungsten trioxide film formed by staggering the nanodisks can be obtained. And the urea enables the hydrated tungsten trioxide film prepared by the seed-assisted hydrothermal method to have a stronger ion storage capacity, thus exhibiting a larger light modulation range, a faster response speed, and a higher coloring efficiency.
