Violet tungsten oxide for producing new energy efficient building glass can be prepared by sputtering method. Some experts have used the sputtering method to prepare W18O49 nanorods with diameters and average lengths in the range of 15-20nm and 50-250nm, respectively. So, how to prepare the violet tungsten oxide nano powder by sputtering?

The W18O49 nanorods were grown on a support substrate of a quartz reactor glass plate. The experiment was carried out by heating a sample of tungsten film to 700°C in an atmosphere of N2 under atmospheric pressure, and then introducing ethylene into the reactor for 20 minutes to analyze the composition of the output gas using an online chromatographic monitor. Finally, the sample was cooled to room temperature under a N2 atmosphere. The nanorods are uniformly grown vertically on the film with a high yield. Further studies have also found that nanorods can grow simultaneously on both sides of the film.
